About me
... and this is me at 6, trying to cut out a few Christmas cookies.
My parents taught me to cook and bake with lots of fun and passion. Even back then, things were pretty "eco" - with fresh ingredients like sprouts, vegetables from the garden and whole grain products.
To prepare for student life, I regularly cooked for my family. With this experience in my luggage I moved to Hamburg - without any idea that it would one day turn into a food blog.
Cooking was also a big deal while I was studying physics. Every Sunday, my friends and I made a festive meal: from a classic Sunday roast to salmon trout in a salt crust to Swabian Maultaschen (filled pasta pockets). Afterwards, watching "Tatort" (a German crime series) was part of the ritual.
Vegan wasn't a thing for me back then - but that was about to change...
Why vegan?
I grew up in the countryside among cows, sheep and straw bales - animals were always part of my life, and for a long time I never thought about how they were kept.
My change of heart began at university: when the university cafeteria was no longer allowed to serve tuna in 2009 because of overfished stocks, it dawned on me that our consumption of animal products is a problem. So I took tuna off my menu too, and cut down on meat step by step. First organic meat, then meat only for hot meals, and finally only on weekends. A slow but steady process.
The decisive trigger was the book "How Not to Die" by Dr. Michael Greger. It didn't just show me the health benefits of a plant-based diet, it also awakened my ethical and ecological awareness. I read up on the topic - books like "Tiere denken", "Vegan-Klischee ade!" (both in German) or "Justice for Animals" - and watched documentaries like "Dominion". I made the sheer scale of it tangible in my project The Silent Price.
In short, I first went vegetarian and, not long after, vegan.
Since then I've been constantly discovering new ingredients, flavors and dishes - a culinary world that feels amazing.
Why this website?
Deep down I felt the urge to actively stand up for a sustainable, vegan lifestyle.
And I knew right away how to do it: present vegan recipes in a way that makes them easy to cook. No long texts, but clear step-by-step instructions, where every step has a picture, its ingredients and a short description.
No sooner said than done. I made my first attempts on YouTube in 2021. My time in front of the camera was exciting, but my passion lies behind the lens - so I continued my creative journey on Instagram.
A step that paid off! A great community, and a place where I could put my basic idea of step-by-step instructions into practice.
After 35 recipes and more than 1,400 followers, I took the next step with this website. Here I can realize my ideas even better, reach more people beyond Instagram and deliver the best content for everyone who simply wants to cook vegan.
I hope you enjoy my recipes!
Yours, Lasse
