Hummus
Roasted aromatics
What goes with it?
In season in Germany right now
Prepare the ingredients:
- Before squeezing the lemon (optional), zest it and cut off the remaining peel with a knife.
- Quarter the garlic for the hummus; cut the garlic for the aromatics into thin strips.
- Cut the chili and lemon peel into strips.
- Blend the ingredients for the hummus in a blender or with an immersion blender until smooth (see tips).
Tip: You can adjust the consistency with a little more or less water.
Making the aromatics:
- Briefly fry the ingredients listed until the garlic turns lightly golden.
Tip: If you like, you can drizzle the oil from the pan over the hummus later, or toast a few slices of baguette in it.
Tips
#plasticfree:
- Hummus is on my table almost every day. Not only because it's super tasty, but also because it brings together lots of healthy ingredients - like legumes and sesame. Making your own hummus also reduces your plastic footprint. If you eat one tub of hummus a week, that's almost 60 plastic containers saved per year!
Also worth knowing:
- On vacation, the choice of vegan spreads is sometimes really limited. That's why I've often made my own hummus while traveling. You can find chickpeas and tahini more and more often, even in exotic countries. And with a bit of luck, there's even an immersion blender in the vacation rental - or at the neighbors'.
